As you know I am a bit of a geek when it comes to technology and gadgets, I have always been one to want to best. So this week I was tasked with setting up some security lighting for the back of the house, overlooking our patio area. After recently having an extension and conservatory added to the rear of the house, there was a lot more space which I wanted to use as a small basketball court...I mean who doesn't like a bit of sports? The only problem was that quite often it would be dark by the time I got home, rendering the whole situation useless.
In the end I started having a look around B&Q and other homeware stores at their lighting, the majority being your standard security style lighting which is motion activated. A lot of these lights were quite weak though, it seemed I needed something a little more high tech. When I got home I started searching Amazon and came across
this beast.
It wasn't cheap but it seemed like it would do the job perfectly as its a flood light rather than a security light. When it arrived I had the full intention of installing it myself, however I had underestimated the electrical skills needed. Because it was a flood light fixture the security PVR still needed to be wired in, along with multiple power wires for redundancy.
A little put off by the wiring I went to get a PVR unit from the store and got chatting to the sales assistant. It seems that what I have chosen is quite a common procedure for businesses looking for lighting for offices, or staff car parks and its not really a good idea to be wiring it in yourself. He actually recommended a
Taunton based electrician who had carried out most of the work on the businesses. So I took the easy way out and got the electricians to finish the installation, tidy up the wiring and test it all out.
Now after work I can come back and still enjoy a bit of hoop-time no matter how dark it is. The light itself is super powerful too, my patio area is about 15m in width x 20m in length and its lit up like its mid-summer!
